About the State of Kansas
Kansas has a population of around 2.9 million people and covers an area of 82,278 square miles. It is known for its flat, open prairies, and is often referred to as the “Sunflower State” due to the prevalence of sunflowers in the state. The economy is diverse and includes agriculture, aviation, manufacturing and service industries. Major companies headquartered in the state include Koch Industries, Sprint Corporation and Pizza Hut.
Kansas played a significant role in the history of the United States, particularly during the Civil War era. The state was the site of several key battles and was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. Notable Kansans include President Dwight D. Eisenhower, aviator Amelia Earhart and journalist William Allen White.
