A Life of Music & Balance
From Carnegie Hall to Adams Brown
Some people navigate life by the beat of a clock, while others, like Janelle Garden, move to the rhythm of their own melody. For Janelle, a segment administrative coordinator, that melody is one of creativity, connection and finding harmony in every aspect of life.
When she’s not immersed in her professional responsibilities, Janelle values time spent with her family. Whether it’s playing card games, backyard football, four square or pickleball, family gatherings are always filled with laughter and a healthy dose of competition. These moments are a reminder of the importance of striking a balance between work and personal passions.
For Janelle, one passion has been a constant source of inspiration: music.
A Lifelong Love of Music
Janelle’s journey with music began in fifth grade when she picked up a saxophone for the first time. During a time when life wasn’t always easy to navigate, music became her outlet for self-expression and a source of confidence. Her passion grew quickly—she would spend hours learning ahead of her class, composing songs and honing her skills with her saxophone teacher.
“When it comes to music, it means sitting down and creating something I find meaningful and beautiful.”
By high school, she was auditioning for honors bands, teaching private lessons and eventually earning second chair in the prestigious Carnegie Hall High School Honors Band. In college, she continued to pursue her passion as a music minor, performing in ensembles like the Saxophone Quartet and Jazz Band.
Keeping the Music Alive
Though Janelle’s life is now busier than ever, she still finds ways to keep music a central part of her life. She performs about three times a year at Tor Brewing’s “Bach and Brews” series, teaches one saxophone/clarinet student and often spends quiet moments playing piano or singing for her own enjoyment.
Music is more than just a personal passion—it’s also about community. She loves attending local music events, cheering on her musician friends and supporting the broader music scene in Wichita.
For Janelle, music remains a powerful tool for reflection and self-expression. After a long day, sitting at the piano or playing her saxophone helps her reconnect with herself.
A Culture that Encourages Passion
The firm’s commitment to a healthy work-life balance has allowed Janelle to pursue her musical interests without compromise. Whether performing at local events or simply enjoying music at home, she appreciates how the firm supports her personal passions. Even more special are the moments when her coworkers attend her performances at Tor Brewing, underscoring the sense of community she feels at work.
“The firm prioritizes a healthy work/life balance which automatically encourages me to pursue my passions! I’ve also had several coworkers attend my saxophone performances, which was super special.”
For Janelle, life is about finding balance—just like a great melody. She feels grateful every day for the opportunity to work in a supportive environment while pursuing the things that bring her joy, like music, family and meaningful connections. Together, these elements create a life filled with harmony and purpose.
“I’m thankful for the significant role music has played in my life, and if I’ve had a rough day, I know I can feel more like myself after sitting down at the piano or grabbing my saxophone.”
