The farming community of Decatur County is one of the most agriculturally productive areas in southwest Georgia. Supported by rich soils, irrigation systems and access to the Flint River basin, agriculture has developed into a major economic driver for Bainbridge and surrounding rural communities. Farms in the county range from smaller family operations to larger commercial farms with diversified production systems.
Decatur County produces peanuts, cotton, corn, soybeans, wheat and pecans, while vegetable production and cattle operations also contribute to the local agricultural economy. The county is particularly noted for its agricultural diversity and strong agribusiness support network. Irrigation technology and agricultural innovation have helped producers maintain high levels of productivity and adapt to changing weather conditions. Additional county agricultural resources can be found through the UGA Extension – Decatur County Office, the Decatur County Government website and the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
