Kansas Biennial Business Filings Coming Jan. 1, 2024

If your company is registered with the Kansas Secretary of State, you are required to file an Annual Report on a yearly basis. This report includes a summary of officers, owners, and other relevant information, and can be submitted either online or by mail, with a filing fee of $55. Historically, for a calendar year entity, the report has been due by April 15 and is considered delinquent if not filed by July 15. Starting Jan. 1, 2024, this will change to a biennial filing instead of an annual filing. The content of the filing will not change, only the filing frequency. The month and date due will also not change, only the year.

If your entity was formed after Dec. 31, 2023:

  • Entities formed in even years will file their reports in subsequent even years.
  • Entities formed in odd years will continue the pattern, filing in odd years.

For example, an entity with a formation date of 2023 will have its annual report due in 2025.

For existing entities:

Existing entities will file based on the year they filed their formation documents with the Kansas Secretary of State.

  • If your company saw its inception in an even year, you are on schedule to file in even years.
  • If your company was established in an odd year, you will file in odd years.

To determine when your next Annual Report filing date will be in Kansas, visit the Kansas Secretary of State’s website and access the “Business Search” feature. For more detailed instructions, please refer to the Kansas Secretary of State’s website.
