A client’s husband unexpectedly passed away and left her to pick up the pieces with the finances. She was anxious about the financial decisions as she never attended meetings with a previous advisor. She was unsure how much money the family had, how to take tax-efficient distributions for income, what would happen if she entered skilled nursing, and how to ensure a legacy was left to her children.
We discussed financial terms and building a goals-based plan focused on her immediate needs. The client’s strategy allowed her to reduce taxes using a long-term approach to Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, establishing a Donor Advised Fund for appreciated stock, and contributing to her children’s college fund. The additional implementation of risk management and estate planning put her on a strong financial foundation for future success.
