About the State of North Dakota
North Dakota is known for its vast grasslands, as well as its oil and natural gas reserves. The state is also home to a number of historic sites, including the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site and the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site. The state has a population of approximately 770,000 people and covers an area of 70,698 square miles, making it the 47th most populous and 19th largest state in the United States by population and area, respectively. The state is known for its strong agricultural industry, particularly in the production of wheat, corn and soybeans, as well as its growing energy and technology sectors.
