About the State of Nevada
Nevada is known for its deserts, mountains, and Las Vegas, one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Las Vegas is famous for its vibrant nightlife, casinos and entertainment venues. Reno, another major city in Nevada, is also known for its casinos and outdoor recreational opportunities. The state’s economy is largely based on tourism, mining and cattle ranching. Nevada is the largest producer of gold in the United States and mining plays a significant role in the state’s economy.
Nevada is bordered by Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, Utah to the east, Arizona to the southeast and California to the west. The state is nicknamed the “Silver State” due to its history of silver mining and it also has a state nickname of “Battle Born,” reflecting its entry into the Union during the American Civil War.
